Sea in Me, 2022-2023

This new body of work resides in the rich historic connections amongst women and the sea. Based in Iceland between 1930-1950, the works are inspired by stories about “Sea Women” and their connection to a life that embodied maritime culture. The works are cultural, anthropological and historical coupled with contemporary influence, all embedded in context around gender, identity, equality, breaking societal norms and family relationships. This is a semi-autobiographical narrative about myself and my reflections on motherhood, kinship, and work-ethic all intertwined around tales of seafarer folklore and a deep eternal connection to the sea.
